With social media algorithms favoring visuals through increased engagement compared to text-based posts, the importance of creating striking photos and videos is greater than ever before. VSCO is a fantastic mobile photo editor that allows users to add custom filters to their photos and perform various edits without introducing a steep learning curve. This free phone app also offers a paid subscription through VSCO X that provides hundreds of filters and color editing capabilities for videos.
VSCO X is the perfect mobile app for video editing, offering much of the same functionality as VSCO does for photo editing. Users can tweak the exposure, saturation, contrast, highlights, shadows and temperature of their video with a slider function to make significant edits or minor touch ups to their videos.
One feature that is offered on VSCO X that isn’t available on its free counterpart is the ability to change the HSL on photos and videos, allowing for greater control over adjusting colors based on highlights, saturation and luminosity for reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues and purples.
For quick edits to spruce up videos, VSCO X has hundreds of filters to choose from, allowing for nearly limitless choices to immediately enhance a video without tweaking settings for the perfect mix.
Like I’ve mentioned before, native videos receive higher engagement compared to photos and text-based posts. The social media world is gravitating toward video as a medium to connect with audiences, but many professionals don’t have the time or knowledge to tweak videos with programs like in my DaVinci Resolve Review, or handle professional equipment to shoot high-quality videos.
The capabilities of smart phones allows for users to record good videos without overcoming a steep learning curve, but raw photos and videos tend to look washed out and unappealing, marking the need for touch up work through editing.
VSCO X is one of the only mobile apps I’ve found that offers exactly what I need in a robust package. I don’t need to perform audio editing and I don’t have the time or knowledge to upload videos to my desktop and tweak settings in DaVinci Resolve 15 or Adobe Premiere Pro to get that right color correction.
This is where VSCO X shines, allowing instant color correction through preset filters and simple tweaks with its myriad of editing features in as little as two minutes. The HSL edit feature is also an added bonus, allowing for increased color correction in both photos and videos.
VSCO X is a subscription service that starts at $20 a year and is available on iOS and Android devices.
What video editing software do you use on mobile, if any? I would love to hear your feedback in the comments below!
